Clinton’s Spread

Wow.  One rarely sees a spread like this unless a presidential candidate is running against Kucinich or Paul.  Clinton won West Virginia taking 67% of the vote as compared to 26% for Obama.  A 41% margin.  That’s stunning by anyone’s measure.

Also, Huckabee and Romney both finished above McCain, but only about 1,100 people voted on the GOP side.

  1. Nothing finer than watching Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews melt down last night on MSNBC.  “Keith, let’s keep talking about that special election for congress down in Mississippi where the Republican lost to the (conservative) Democrat......that’s the only story people in America really need to acknowledge occurred yesterday”

Dan Abrams show afterwards was much better with some good analysis and discussion of whether Hillary would be VP or how Obama can make up his demographic gap.

  2. 1,100 people voted back in Feb., but over 100,000 voted yesterday. Apparently the 1,100 are a nominating caucus and yesterday was the public vote.

  3. Well, when a Democrat wins a congressional race not remotely considered winnable by 8 points, it’s pretty big news. Childers was running in a district that went for Bush 62 - 37 in 2004, and for his Republican predecessor 66 - 34 in 2006. Where he was outspent by every major Republican organization and had Cheney, Cochran, Lott, Huckabee, and Wicker campaigning against him. Where every Republican ad said he was a good friend of Obama and Pelosi, and that he wouldn’t denounce Jeremiah Wright or the Weather Underground.

He still won by 8 points. That’s big news, although I can understand that Republicans want to ignore it.

  4. I think people need to come to the realization that the GOP is in for a major smack done in November.  I believe this is the 3rd special election loss in a district that was supposed to be heavily republican.  The losses in Illinois and LA can might be explained due to the bad GOP’s running.  However in MS, this was not the case.  I do believe that that the DEM who won was a conservative democrat, not a tax and spend liberal.

I am a conservative and I do not think any of this bodes well.  I think that there needs to be new leadership at the State and Federal GOP.  We are going to get our ass kicked bigtime.  In a lot of ways they should.  The only saving grace is that 4 year of liberal dems might be all the GOP needs to take over again.  None of their policies are going to stimulate the economy or lower energy prices, in fact it will increase them.

Also, I jumped off the McCain bandwagon, especially after his global warming speech.  I think in the Federal races I will only vote for Ryan.  I will sit out the others.

Get ready for a beat down.

  5. I have a question, and hope someone knows the answer.

Why is it that when, in the heart of red state territory, in the heart of Dixie, the GOP stronghold of the South for the past forty plus years---WHY IS IT that when the GOP is referred to as the party of Lincoln (which I learned is the case back in high school civics), that these Southerners have a major conniption?

Can’t they handle the truth?  Or are they feeling guilty because many of them swore that they’d never vote Republican because their grandpappy voted Democrat, so they’re gonna vote Democrat too?

Every GOP convention I can recall featured large images of the past GOP presidents, including Lincoln.

As a aside, I have been able to locate hundreds of public schools named for Robert E. Lee on the internet, yet have been unable to find one public school named for Abraham Lincoln in the Old Confederacy.

If these people hate Lincoln so much, can assume they never carry pennies or five dollar bills?

I had a crazy relative who wouldn’t take a dime back in change because of his irrational hatred of FDR.

    Thanks for your time.

  6. Please don’t use the word Clinton and Spread in the same sentence, I’m going to have nightmares tonight.

  7. Lincoln HS McClellanville, SC
Abraham Lincoln Middle School Gainesville, FL
    Lincoln High School Lincoln, AL
    Lincoln High School Lincoln, AR
    Lincoln Elementary School Monroe, LA
    Lincoln High School Dallas, TX

Granted a couple of these are in municipalities named Lincoln as well, but would they name a city/town after a hated figure?

In addition, last time I checked President Bush has a portrait of the Great Emancipator hanging in the Oval Office as the President who is most influential in his life. Let’s see, Bush-Texas-Old Confederacy.....

As for why some have a conniption, I cannot answer for them. But, which Southerners are you referring to? Is it a majority? A large percentage? Or is this just a generalization that you have come upon in your travels?

  8. Childers may have won, but MS 1st District was the big loser.  “Conservative” Dem?  Uh....they can tout him as that, but reality is something else.  Yeah, pro life.  Yeah, pro 2nd Amendment.  But also pro tax.

It’s been an ugly race, and I for one, am glad I don’t have to watch any more of those dadburn commercials!

  9. John P, you are on the mark!  Mexicain is going to sink like a lead weight in November.  The only reason is because the Republicans in CONGRESS have forsaken the conservative voters in America.  I just hate it for our military.  They deserve better than either Hillary or Obama

  11. #6 Bill, The only reason I clicked on the comments to this post was to register my discontent? with the title of Clinton and spread.

I’m really puzzled why the dems would choose to label McCain as Bush’s 3rd term yet ignore the fact that Hillary would be Bill’s 3rd term.

    Are they stupid or something???
