Hat tip Charlie Sykes.
So Abele is a hard left person. Duly noted.
Not a surprise to anyone who’s watched his philanthropic efforts.
It’s pretty sad you’re so stuck in partisan cross blaming and mud slinging there Owen. You’ll be writing your little opinion papers and blogging about how the ACLU and citizen groups are evil, while the world around you actually DOES something about it.
Abele also has Sheldon Lubar as a co-chair of his campaign. Lubar must have the drive in him still after helping the Ron Johnson campaign.
Does that make Johnson a liberal too?
Calling someone “hard left” is mudslinging? Your threshold is very low.
People that support those organizations are pretty far on the left. If you support them - vote for Abele. If you don’t - don’t vote for him.
Ahhhh.. I just love the smell of context in the morning.

Thanks Zach
I don’t think you have the gotcha that you think you do. The alleged gotcha is that the Dems video their meetings, so it wasn’t a “secret” tape. So? The issue isn’t how the information was obtained, it’s that Abele has been portraying himself as a moderate when he is clearly a hardcore lefty. It’s fine that he’s a lefty. I don’t think that really surprises anyone.
It is interesting how many lefties are rushing to create this firewall between Abele and his lefty views. Shouldn’t y’all be excited to have a rich, personable, lefty on the ballot? Why disavow his beliefs?
I don’t think you have the gotcha that you think you do.
Nice. Try.
Believe me Owen there is a whole lotta room to the left of you before it starts lookin like a center.
So is Sheldon Lubar a beard or a closet Maoist?
What context?
Abele’s words were not taken out of context or edited to make him look bad. He’s a lefty through and through and not the moderate that he is trying to appear to be. Everybody who knows him thinks it’s highly amusing that business people are even considering supporting him.
BTW, Sheldon Lubar is good friends with Abele, which is why he’s supporting him. I personally know people who disagree with Abele strongly but are still backing him due to being in the same social circles (wealthy symphony people and the like) and figuring the race is his to lose due to the huge cash advantage.
Again, foo, you’re missing the point (intentionally?). I’m a righty. I make no bones about it. Abele is a lefty, but is claiming a centrist position. That’s the point. Can we all just be honest about our political profiles?
Abele’s words were not taken out of context or edited to make him look bad.
The only thing missing from this little exercise were those wailing/howling sounds from the Ziegler/Clifford campaign.
I know you guys are going to have to demonize Abele to make Stone seem more appealing…Good Luck.
Foo,
How is calling Abele a lefty “demonizing” him? He is, right? Or are you saying that all lefties are demons? I’ve certainly never asserted any such equation.
Again, foo, you’re missing the point (intentionally?). I’m a righty. I make no bones about it. Abele is a lefty, but is claiming a centrist position.
Owen, that centrist position you keep talking about is to your left…just over the horizon.
Can we all just be honest about our political profiles?
Aw shucks, wouldn’t that be refreshing, y’all?

So Abele is a hard left person. Duly noted.
Ok, how about that I get that you guys need to make Abele appear less centrist to try and breathe some life into the idea that Jeff Stone is a moderate.
All better?
I believe that you are the only one who has mentioned Stone so far. I would classify Stone as a righty with some unfortunate diversions when it comes to mass transit. So Abele’s a lefty and Stone’s a righty. And? I think you think you’re actually making a point, but not so much…
And I must say that if I had a vote in that election, Stone would be my first choice, but Abele is head and shoulders better than the rest of the jokers on the ballot.
I believe that you are the only one who has mentioned Stone so far.
I know and I am sorry I did.
It looks like his campaign is DOA.
And?
How about a nice post on the meltdown in Egypt?
Abele might have donated to lefty organizations, but that doesn’t make him the flaming lefty that Owen and the rest of the echo chamber is trying to make him out to be.
He is proposing, at a minimum(pdf), of privatizing the transit system, the parks, the zoo and the airport. He also wants to blow up the public pension system. Not exactly the stances of a flaming liberal, is it? He also steals some of Stone’s talking points, since he was the one that tried to backdoor a privatization of the airport a few years ago.
As for Lubar, let’s see why he became Abele’s co-chair:
Lubar has been a vocal advocate for junking county government in favor of a consolidated city-county hybrid system.
“I came on board yesterday,” said Lubar, a prominent Republican and founder of Lubar & Co.. “Chris and I agree that there are some specific changes that are needed, and we have a man who’s governor who knows what they are better than anyone else.”
It’s more likely that foo is correct. Jeff Stone is spinning his wheels even with the Walker machine running things for him. His recent push to disenfranchise the poor and the minorities will not win him many friends, especially those of us that still appreciate freedom and the few rights Walker and company will be leaving us with.
Abele will be able to buy his way through the primary. The real contest, IMHO, will be the second seed, whether it will be Stone or Sullivan.
This is hilarious.
Chris Abele is not a Conservatie. Chris Abele is not a moderate. Chris Abele is a down-the-line lefty. I know people in his circle of friends and he’s never even said anything remotely Conservative in all the years they’ve known him.
This whole charade is one of the funniest things ever. Abele has gotten into shouting matches at brunch when politics are discussed. Those people in his ads were recruited from a bunch of his friends. A friend of mine got an e-mail asking if she wanted to be in his ad. She just laughed.
Anybody who isn’t a solid liberal shouldn’t even consider a vote for Abele.
Just wondering who Owen and Greg would consider a boilerplate centrist/moderate?
Nobody is this field is a moderate, imo. Stone is conservative (with some huge problems regarding rail, though) and the rest are liberal.
The worst choice of them all would be Jim Sullivan.
So broaden the field up.
Name any politician who you would considera moderate.
Wait a minute. I know nothing about Abele and I was hoping to hear something useful here. Does he think transit, parks, zoo and airport should be privatized? What does ‘blow up’ the pension plan mean?
Those views would make him less left than ‘hard left’ in my book.
Anyone who supports the execution of Chris Liebenthal has my vote.
Or at a minimum, firing his ass without severance.
Tuergas-
Abele is one of the leaders of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, which has supported the notion of doing anything from privatizing the parks, zoo, airport and transit system to shutting down the entire county government and declaring bankruptcy, despite the fact that all of these options would actually raise taxes.
