Chili Grenade

Love it.

The Indian military has a new weapon against terrorism: the world’s hottest chili.

After conducting tests, the military has decided to use the thumb-sized “bhut jolokia,” or “ghost chili,” to make tear gas-like hand grenades to immobilize suspects, defense officials said Tuesday.

The bhut jolokia was accepted by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the world’s spiciest chili. It is grown and eaten in India’s northeast for its taste, as a cure for stomach troubles and a way to fight the crippling summer heat.

It has more than 1,000,000 Scoville units, the scientific measurement of a chili’s spiciness. Classic Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units, while jalapeno peppers measure anywhere from 2,500 to 8,000.

“The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization,” Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

I give it 2 years before people are tossing a chili grenade into their gumbo or bloody mary’s.

  1. Definitely.  I’ve seen friends in the armed security industry squirt pepper spray into their tacos.

  2. For anyone with five minutes to kill, there are a lot of videos on YouTube showing people of questionable judgment trying to eat these things.  Some of them are pretty funny.  Just search for the name of the pepper.

  3. A budy of mine is a produce manager at one of our stores here in onalaska. This bartender kept pestering him to get some of these peppers because he saw adam eat some wings on man vs food. so he wanted to see how hot they are. so my budy orders a couple. he did sell most of the packages. these 2 college kids come in complaining how bummed how they dont have any good hot peppers. duh there was snow down south its hard to get peppers at times.
so he shows these kids these ghost chilies, explains how hot they are, you have to use gloves to handle the peppers, showed them the scovil rating.
they wanted to cut them and put on there pizza.
they walked away with 2 packages.
he was laughing just imaging these 2 guys with there woman over for pizza, not knowing how hot these are and what a shock to there system these will be.
he hasnt seen these kids yet.
