Watchful Eye WB has the video of the interview for the District 1 appointment. It’s 53 minutes long, but I urge you to watch this interview process and decide who YOU would have appointed. Turner is buttressed with facts, figures, ideas, and has obviously prepared for the interview. Justman seems surprised at some of the questions and has obviously not thought about the issues facing West Bend at any great length. But, as I said before, the kicker is the question about the conflict of interest. Justman’s response to this question alone should have disqualified him.
And if anyone can tell me how to embed a Google video in anything other than a Google product, I’d be happy to post it here too.
UPDATE: I know it’s a long video. If you like, here are the highlights:
42:36 - Justman gets confused about the conflicts of interest question and then dismisses it.
39:29 - Justman is asked about his efforts on the County Board to attract businesses since he is touting that as one of his goals as an Alderman. He states, “nothing at this point.”
31:00 - Justman talks about his degree from the University of Hard Knocks.
12:43 - Justman botches the definition of a TIF district. Turner corrects him at 13:52.
28:48 - Justman doesn’t appear to know what “transparency” means.
51:00 - District 4 Alderman, Dobberstein, gets confused about a motion that he seconded.
Good times… good times…
Embedded.
That’s some mighty fine computer fu. Thanks!

Posted by Jed on July 19, 2007 at 0813 hrsGood grief! Why even bother going through that dog and pony show? Its obvious that the selection to fill that seat had been determined long before the first question was asked of either candidate. If it hadn’t, I don’t know how anyone could have come to the conclusion that Justman was the most qualified to fill the seat. Most of his answers were either a bad parrotting of what Turner had already said (‘Ditto’, ‘I have to agree with my opponent on that’ ,etc, etc). When he wasn’t telling the interviewers how much he agreed with Turner’s answers, his answers varied between barely cogent, to downright disgraceful. His answer to the ‘conflict of interest question’ was simply embarassing. The best though, was when after he had regurgitated, I don’t know how many times, that his primary objective as an alderman would be to recruit business to West Bend, when asked what he had done as a County Supervisor to accomplish that, he responded ‘... Nothing ...”. So basically, the West Bend City Council just appointed a man who admits to be completely ineffective on one legislative body on the issue he claims to want to do the most about while serving on thiers. You just have to love the ‘Transparency’ of local government, don’t you?

Makes me wonder how they were passing the time that night since they obviously could not have been listening to Mr. Justman’s non-answers to most of the questions.
Posted by Rich2 on July 19, 2007 at 1332 hrsI was most surprised and disappointed in Dobberstein and his eager endorsement of Justman. Seems the whole Mayoral rescind vote and his desire to represent his constituents in keeping things more ‘above board’ was just rhetoric.
