Census Bureau Ramping Up

Need a job?

RACINE, Wis. - While many companies are laying off, the U.S. Census Bureau plans to hire thousands of people for its upcoming population count.

Spokeswoman Muriel Jackson says the bureau plans to hire 6,600 people in southern Wisconsin alone.

Jackson works in the Chicago Regional Census Center, which will oversee the count in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

She says workers are needed for a variety of jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, clerks, administrative staff and crew leaders. Work starts this spring and goes through the completion of the census next year. Jackson says pay starts at $14 per hour.

  1. 6600 jobs. This is more stimulative than the boondoggle that congress is working on fleecing us with right now!

  2. Government can create public sector jobs ad nauseam.  Unfortunately, many Democrats believe government can also create private sector jobs.
