We had a marvelous dinner of traditional burgers on the grill. Then, at dinner, Wendy recited the Declaration of Independence including each of the signers. We spent time discussing the meaning of various… er… declarations. As it happened, the fox that lives in our backyard came out to eat some berries out of the yard. We decided to name him Button, after Button Gwinnett. His nickname is Butt. Not sure that’s a good thing.
“Recited” implies that I have it memorized. No, I googled it, and we read it, stopping to define words such as “magnanimity.” The kids were surprisingly receptive.

At about 915pm, the guys and I went up to the roof of our building at work which happens to be the highest point in Stephenson county Illinois and could see Fireworks from Monroe, Rockford, Mineral Point, Lena, Stockton, Beloit, and other places that we didn’t know the town names of. It was pretty cool just seeing the horizon all lit up whereever you were looking.
