Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has announced the Department of Justice (DOJ) already has started to issue concealed carry licenses to qualified applicants today, the first day permitted under Act 35.
As of approximately 3:45 p.m., more than 120 licenses have been issued to qualified applicants. Almost 150 applications have been received by the DOJ at the Attorney General’s Capitol office, where applications have been made available and have been dropped off by visitors.
Of the applications received today, almost 90 licenses already have been printed at the DOJ and have been prepared for mailing.
I believe it was reported that JB got permit #1.
I had considered staying over night at a relatives house in Madison, just so I could hand-deliver my application to the DOJ. A friend suggested they might refuse to accept hand-delivered applications, just to prevent hoards of people showing up in the office.
Oh well. I mailed it instead. I’ve waited ten years, I can wait a few more weeks.
Also, good to see they are trying to stay on top of the incoming wave of applications. I had prepared myself for a 45 day wait, but now I am much more hopeful that I won’t be waiting that long.
I read Mr. Van Hollen was #1 as well. Something about that doesn’t sit well with me.
It’s curious that statute 939.48 (cited in the application) considers self-defense to be a “privilege.”
Overall, there’s entirely too much “rights talk” in today’s world, as people expound on a “right” to quality housing, medical care, and other things that must be produced by others.
BUT, self-defense surely is a natural right. Meaning that it should be recognized (not granted) by governments.
It is nothing short of disgraceful that Van Hollen took permit #1 for himself and then had the nerve to add that it was for “all the work he did”. The man has been nothing but an impediment to 2nd Amendment issues since being elected and continues to be with his extreme over-reach on the DOJ Emergency Rules. There are SO many people who have poured their hearts and souls into getting this law passed for so many years and would have been far more deserving of Permit #1 than this RINO. At the top of my list would have been a tie between former State Senator Dave Zein and former Representative Scott Gunderson. Then, down there at about #3,428 would have been Van Hollen.
45acp, agreed! I’d put Zein at the head of the line.
