I’ll be on Sunday Insight with Charlie Sykes tomorrow morning. Mikel Holt again predicts that the Asian Carp will emerge from Lake Michigan and devour the citizens of Milwaukee like some campy monster flick.
We should be so lucky.
Seriously, the Asian Carp is a problem, but no more of a problem than the (roughly) 200 (is that right?) invasive species currently in the Great Lakes.
The Asian carp problem is potentially much bigger than anything outside the zebra mussels.
These things can grow to massive size and take over the highly profitable and enjoyable salmon and trout fisheries.
Imagine anglers on those pristine Michigan rivers casting for trout but having large asian carp jumping into them. Or rowers from UWM going down the Milwaukee river being hit in the head by large Asian carp.
Watch the videos of people boating through those stretches of river where the carp now reside.
I agree with you, Steve. I’m just sayin’. It’s another in a long line of things that shouldn’t be there. Kinda like kudzu down south.
I always wanted someday to own a house on Lake Michigan. But you see all these environmental messes the last ten years and it scares you off.
The last few years they have had those algae blooms that have stunk up the shoreline and beaches. All courtesy of our friend the Zebra mussel.
Yet it still remains one heck of a neat Lake if they can try to keep some of this stuff under control.
So where are all the left wing enviros? I don’t see them camped out in front of the White House demanding that something be done…
If you want to have strong views on the environment - that’s fine, but it seems like an excuse when it depends on which party is in power…
