  1. There was no Miller at the meeting - I LOVE this cartoon.

  2. Was anything of importance accomplished? Are we now a colorless nation who’s citizens will be able to live in harmony?

The whole concept was nothing more than the basis for an off color (no pun intended) joke.

  3. I thought the event (as originally conceived, not as the press massaged it) was really nice.  That’s all.  Nothing to jump all over as being stupid or ill-advised. And honestly, very common-sensical (is that a word?).

Oh and also—good that Miller wasn’t there, because it tastes like shit.

  4. It wasn’t nice. That sounds like something Oprah would say.  It was a photo-op to recover from Obamas foot-in-the-mouth disease.

  5. Finally, a political cartoon that is laugh out loud funny.

  6. Let’s be honest - this was a mess of Obama’s own making.  Now, ultimately, he looks stupid for even having a Beer Summit.

“Let’s sort this out over a beer at the White House.”

Possibly one of the most condescending political stunts in modern history.  Gates has probably never touched the stuff and the cop has probably never drank a beer with a suit on (unless it was a wedding or a wake).

“I’m going to appeal to the masses and have a beer like men do and sort out our differences.”  Seriously?  If that was all it took to calm racial tension, then we should have done it eons ago.

I’m surprised Obama didn’t offer the cop a donut, too.  That would be more honest of what he probably believes.

Why beer?  Why not coffee?  Why at the White House?  The American people see this for what it was - Obama acting like he’s trying to cool off a bar fight; not that he’s even seen one, let alone been in one.

Are we to believe that a man who complains about the price of arugula at Whole Foods really settles disagreements over beer?

  7. Hey-
I’ll never say it wasn’t a photo op to recover from saying something wrong. It obviously was. But from within that perspective, it was a nice one.  Then again, I love beer, so maybe I’m prejudiced.

  8. What would have been better if Obama called all his media buddies at NBC, MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC and alike and made a heartfelt apology for making a stupid comment without knowing all the facts.

How about Gates calling the person… who tried to help him by calling the police…a racist.  Where is that apology?

Like I’ve said before the criminals now have a free pass to break into Mr. Gates home.  Who would call the cops now?

  10. I would have opted for a bottle of Spotted Cow Ale from New Glarus Brewing…

  11. I can just picture the beer man rambling up to that outdoor table, taking the beer and saying that. Now THAT would have been funny.

  12. I would have opted for a bottle of Spotted Cow Ale from New Glarus Brewing…

It’s good, but I don’t get the popularity.  Personally, I prefer either Dancing Man Wheat or Black Wheat from NGB.

  18. Jason, haven’t seen those, but will look. I do, however, have to make out a shopping list to look for the other selections in this thread! Yummy!

  19. Billiam,

I think they’re both labeled as seasonal beers, but I’ve seen the Black Wheat at stores for the past three months.  Dancing Man wheat is their autumn wheat beer, and to me has a smoked wheat flavor.  Black Wheat is advertised as their early spring wheat beer, but I still see it in stores.  Thanks for that, because it’s my favorite.  It pours black, has a definite wheat flavor, but also hints of caramel and chocolate.  It’s not a real heavy dark beer, like a stout, but more refreshing and savory.

I love just about any wheat beer, as long at it’s not too perfumy (think Leiney’s Sunset Wheat for an example of perfumy).

  20. Jason, I hear you. I love dark beers and light ale’s. NGB’s Naked isn’t bad, but I’ll look for your suggestions. My local grocery store has a create your own 6 pack with about 30 different selections. I get to try a lot of different beers! Yes, I’m in my happy place! LOL

    I’m not.  Heck, it’s already 6PM on a Friday…  I haven’t been thirsty for hours!

  23. “Rudy Giuliani, who has returned as a leading Republican spokesman, condemned Obama’s health care plan in an interview with Sean Hannity.

He also offered, in response to the president’s hope that the Gates arrest would be a “teachable moment,” this:

“He’s actually right. It is teachable. Here’s the lesson: Shut up.”

  24. The best beer by far is XXXX (that’s 4X) from Australia.  Brewed in Queensland the only place I have seen it in the states is Hawaii.  angry

  25. Anything by NGB is great, but I’d also like to pimp my local micro - Tyranena Brewing Co.  Good stuff!
