WEST BEND - Plans are underway for a $3.1 million makeover of the auditorium at the West Bend High Schools and one of the policies the school board will consider is whether to serve alcohol in the concession area.
“We’ve talked to other Performing Art Centers that are attached to schools and they said it makes a difference on how much it gets used,” said Mike Murphy, executive director of the West Bend Public Schools Foundation.
The Foundation is the organization raising the money for the project, which is being designed as a destination for other events in the community. “Businesses and others are more likely to use the theatre, if it (alcohol) is an option,” said Murphy.
Any money raised by renting the facility to private groups, according to Murphy, would go into the district general fund. He said money raised by the Foundation will cover the expense of building the PAC, but the upkeep and facility costs would fall back onto taxpayers in the district.
