Blagojevich Names Roland Burris to Obama’s Former Senate Seat

The Sun Times is reporting.

Gov. Blagojevich today is expected to name former state Comptroller and Attorney General Roland Burris to Illinois’ vacant U.S. Senate seat, a knowledgeable source said this morning.

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Wow.  No shame whatsoever.  If I were Burris, I’d decline the appointment.  He’d be tainted forever if he took it.

  3. My bad.  I misread it as Emmanuel’s seat.

    Mea Culpa.

  4. As if to Democrats there is anything ‘tainted’ about power, no matter how it is gained.  Do you think Al Franken will feel shame over his “election” to the Senate from Minnesota?

Or as if there is any such thing as a ‘tainted’ Democrat.

By which I mean as if there is any problem for a ‘tainted’ Democrat to be re-elected by an overwhelming majority.  Or be returned to office after any prison term.  Or elected to a new office after being impeached and removed from a different office.

A politician can only be ‘tainted’ by his Party rejecting him or the press turning on him.  Democrat voters will elect any jacka$$ with a “D” after its name.

  5. Owen,
I have to agree with you on this one.  Turn the seat down.  It is unfortunate it will have to sit empty until a special election but I think you have to do that now.

  6. Watching the guy in his presser and on Maddow tonight reminded me of Palin - not ready for prime time; in fact not doing himself any favors by speaking into a microphone.

Indeed Owen you are right, the noble thing would be to decline the appointment.

  7. ATV, it is almost mind numbing and so idiotic to mention Palin in this.  Have you no brains or are you just a partisan hack without values?  Curious minds want to know.  Assinine.

  8. To be a partisan hack I’d have to be partisan. I’m not. I dislike the Dems just as much, if not more, than the GOP.

My opinion stands - both Burris and Palin seem/seemed rather amateurish.

On what basis do you disagree?

    Could have fooled me.

  10. ATV, if you cannot tell the difference, then you would never understand it.  You are just taking a cheap political shot and trying to deflect attention away from Blagojevich and put it on Palin.  I mean, how can you even rationalize comparing the 2?  It’s beyond comprehsion unless you are some political hack or a liberal.

  11. Owen,

Describe, in detail, how I’ve shown love to the Democratic party. I rip the GOP, sure, but exactly where have I said the Dems are significantly better, or even much different?

Like my questions to you about referenda, using the courts to overturn referenda, and Palin’s windfall tax, I won’t hold my breath for an actual answer.

    Dan,

I’m sorry you’re incapable of getting my point. I don’t think I have a whole lot of power to shift the focus off of Blagojevich. Nor would I try, that would be idiotic. I’m not even comparing the circumstances under which the two were chosen, because obviously they’re quite different.

All I’m comparing is the political “readiness” of the two individuals in question.

For you to put more weight into it than that suggests severe, probably partisan-based, comprehension issues.

I’m not sure I could make it any more clear, but I think the Democratic party are a bunch of assclowns whose ideas are just as unrealistic as the assclowns who represent the base of the GOP. Harry Reid is pathetic. Nancy Pelosi is a loon. Kohl is useless. Feingold is often in outer space.

Do you understand? Are you capable of accepting the idea of thinking that is independent of partisan or ideological label?

  12. Perhaps, ATV, you just don’t understand the difference between apples and oranges.
Blagojevich is accused of selling a senate seat.  He wanted to get bribes.
Palin has nothing that compares to that.
Palin has a fairly large national following.
Blagojevich has none, even before the latest scandal hit.
Blagojevich has been embroiled in scandal almost since day 1 of his governorship.
Palin has had a trumped charge against regarding a state trooper which has been dismissed.
Blagojevich is about to be impeached.
    Palin is not.
So, you can take cheap shots and compare apples and oranges and continue to look like a fool.

  13. Or Dan, perhaps the issue here is that you haven’t figured out that ATV is comparing Roland Burris and Sarah Palin, and not Rod Blagojevich and Sarah Palin.

I know it’s tricky, Burris being the black guy and Blagojevich looking like the blocky little white dude with the snap-on hair that used to come with the Legos.  They’re very easy to confuse…

  14. Ok, now that I have read the recent posts more closely, I made a mistake.  I see now that ATV compared Burress and Palin instead of Palin/Blagojevich.
That being said, I still don’t see the comparison.  I actually believe that Buress is ready for prime time.  He has been elected to 2 state wide offices in IL.  Palin has shown she is ready for prime time as a governor and a VP canidate.  So, again, it is just a cheap policitcal shot.

  15. Dan, I’m glad to see you figured it out. I was afraid I’d have to break out the construction paper, glitter, and safety scissors.

As far as being a cheap political shot, to what end? I’m disparaging both the Dem and the Republican, so what is to be gained?

It’s simply an opinion that they both appear amateurish, nothing more.

Serious question for you Dan, isn’t it interesting how charges against someone from your own party are almost always “trumped up”? I find it amazing how that works.

  16. Actually Dan, given a prime time role Palin was shown to be unprepared. Were you to take a closer look at the crop of politicians Alaskans have to choose from, you’d see why Palin won election as mayor and governor. Twenty thousand Alaskan voters can’t be wrong.

  17. OMG- I cannot believe the ignorance in this conversation.  You took a swipe a Palin for no other reason than to take a swipe at Palin.

Who gives a rip if any of you think Palin was ready for prime time?  Millions upon millions of Americans disagreed with you on Nov. 4th.  No, she didn’t win, but that is not the point.

The point is that Obama is associated with every person mentioned in the article.  Obama knows each and every one of these guys personally.  Many of which helped him get elected.

The political thuggery is completely surrounding Obama, but for some odd reason you fail to mention that.

Instead Palin gets dragged into this.

So, anothertosavoter, you are only fooling yourself if you think anyone reading this thinks you dislike the Dems as much as the GOP.

You are about as nonpartisan as the MSNBC geeks and the rest of the MSM.

Who do you think is buying this nonpartisan drivel?

  18. Wow KC, all the important buzzwords.

    Thuggery, MSM, MSNBC….

You must have bought the Republican version of the blog post/comment-writing software that Plaisted has. His Democrat version works great too. Not a single original thought, just boilerplate.

Did you download it directly or buy it at Best Buy?
