Black Panther Gets 30 Days for Shooting a Cop

30 days for shooting a cop?

A former Black Panther Party member has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years’ probation for the 1969 shooting of a Chicago police officer.

Joseph Pannell spent years living in Canada, working as a researcher and raising a family under the name Gary Freeman.

In 1969 as a 19-year-old member of the militant group, Pannell shot Terrence Knox three times in the right arm, wounding him. Pannell was arrested after the shooting but he ran after being released on bail in the early 1970s. He spent years fighting his extradition until voluntarily returning to Chicago this month and pleading guilty to an aggravated battery charge.

  2. With all the money it takes to put someone away this sounds like a very novel idea.

  3. Good, instead of jail, just donate money.  So Keith, how about the CEO’s who have been convicted of crimes and are spending time (years) in jail.  Would you support the same penalty for the CEOs?  30 days and contreibute $$$$$.  You know you would not.  But this thug is a liberal, never apoligized so Keith likes him and wants to give him a break.  Pathetic
This thug should have the book thrown at him for what he did, even if the victim thought this punishment was appropriate.

  4. I suspect this is what it took for a voluntary turn-in.

  5. Doesn’t sound like it was a voluntary turn in.  He was caught by the cold case squad.
Another disgusting part of the story.  The $250,000 was not paid by just the thug, criminal defense attorneys and friends in Canada paid into the fund.  Disgusting.
Again, I put this to keith and the other’s who think this is a good idea- in leiu of jail time, can someone buy themselves out of jail?  That is exactly what happened here.
    How about it keith?
