Belling Hammers West Bend School Board Chairman

Mark Belling spent 20 minutes on his show today covering the reason we have open meetings in America, why they are important, and why West Bend School Board Chairman Joe Carlson’s comments are so out of line.

Here’s the podcast.  He starts talking about West Bend at about 12 minutes.  He mentions B&S at about 20:50.

  2. Who’s his audience if it takes 20 minutes to cover the reasons for open meetings? Or does he have to stop and check himself out in the mirror every now and then?

  4. His (Mark Belling) audience is the most informed audience.  Maybe that’s because he talks in PUBLIC and not behind closed doors.

  5. For the record, Belling repeatedly says the controversy was about “referendum spending”. Not true. A District must specify the purpose of the referendum up front. They cannot change that after the fact.

  6. My point is that we don’t need 20 minutes of air time to impress upon reasonable folks the importance of open public meetings. Its a basic value of democracy. Unless the idea is to sensationalize, of course.

  7. Not to bicker, but I think we do need 20 minutes of air time.  If we didn’t more folks in West Bend would be outraged and calling for heads to roll. Yet all we heard were crickets.
