Bad Dog

Quote from Charlie Sykes on his TV show…

“Politicians take money for the same reason that dogs lick themselves… because they can.”

So true.

  1. War cost in Afghanistan, Iraq could go to $2.4 trillion in next decade”.

Cost of the war so far to citizens of West Bend: $42,837,045.

Why, that’s as much as a school referendum, isn’t it?

  2. What does a school referendum have to do with national security?  Defense is one of the few legitimate functions of the federal government. Are you suggesting we simply dump defense spending and have our federal dollars sent back to our local municipalities or school districts?

We can play this game all day long. Using the same stupid website - West Bend could hire 742 more teachers. So what. What the hell would they need them for?

While we are at it, we could take the state budget and all property taxes paid in this state and play the same game. Do you really believe that every citizen in the state of Wisconsin is getting $12,100 worth of government services? Do you think it is right that these services cost each person who holds a job $23,078.86?

As I said, we can play the spending game all day long – what is the point other than government and the supposed services it provides cost us a whole lot of money.

  3. Correct, FY.  National security matters.  But your underlying presumption is that Iraq did attack or was going to attack West Bend—or even the U.S.

  4. Was Owen talking about the politicians who beat the drums of war, and spend without limit and without accountability?  Or was he talking about his school board?  It wasn’t clear from his post.  Maybe we have to ask Charlie, so he can tell Owen.

  5. Yet an other example of what Charlie has added to the local discourse.

  6. I wasn’t talking about anything, JF.  It’s just a funny quote that could be applied to any number of issues.  It’s the weekend.  Try to discover your inner sense of humor.

Actually, Charlie was talking about how both parties stole money from the PCF.

  7. Is this some Seinfeldian blog about nothing?  “So true”, yet nothing?  Which politicians are considered to be licking, which aren’t?

As for my sense of humor, I’m hilarious.  That’s what makes me so sexy.  As for Charlie’s sense of humor, that’s a pretty old joke he’s repeating. Or that you’re repeating.  For no reason at all.

I have no doubt that politicians from both parties lined up for their pork in the state budget.

  8. “Chickenhawk Charlie” Sykes marries and divorces wives like some men change underwear.

At the moment, Charlie is on wife #3.  The precise length of her tenure is unknown at this writing.  If the past is indeed prologue, her long nightmare may soon be over.

  9. Rather than commenting on the substance of a statement today, local liberals opted to personally attack the person making the statement.

Whether or not you hate the man or not, doesn’t change the fact that he’s right.  And he was actually talking about BOTH parties.

But keep deluding yourselves that you advance your cause by petty slams and crass remarks - yes, open minded indeed.

  10. P.S., Wally’s comments may be off-topic and ad hominem, but they’d be relevant if Charlie was known as a self-styled moralist who likes to act like he’s got it all figured out and that he’s capable and qualified to be a moralizer and judge of other people’s behavior.  Has he ever been known for that?

  11. You still don’t have too much of a point there Foust. I think the behavior is quite simple to judge by just about anyone.

Doyle proposed it in three budgets and in his second budget of the year. I guess that makes it four times. The Senate Democrats adopted it in their budget and then in Doyle’s second budget of the year. Finally, the Republicans in the Assembly accepted it and then with a majority of Democrats voting in favor and a majority of Republicans voting against - it is official. The budget relies on stealing money it has no claim to.

Pretty simple. Even a liberal should get it. If you want, I can try drawing pictures. Let me know. Didn’t public radio dicuss this topic? Did you stay awake to cover the details?

  12. Geez you guys. The quote was funny. It applies to dozens of things.

Is there no love in the valley today?

  13. There hasn’t been any love in this valley in ages, Cindy.  B&S;is just one big fourth grade playground fight.

  14. Except on the playground there’s little opportunity to hide behind a disguise.

They don’t call him the Recess Supervisor for nothing.
