The Assault Weapons Ban will expire in 6 days. Woohooo!!!!!
When I first bought my Ruger 10/22, it was a true joy. This weapon is perhaps the best plinking gun on the market. I would take it out into the woods and shoot for hours on end. A box of 500 rounds cost less than $10 and would fill an afternoon.
I immediately found that the 10-round magazine that came with the gun was far from adequate. At less than a penny a shot, 10 rounds go very very quickly. I spent more time loading than I did shooting. Not cool.
So I went out and bought a couple of 50-round magazines. Great. Now I could actually spend time shooting instead of reloading. The magazines were about $10 each and were worth every penny. They were plastic and I ended up going through a few of them as they wore out.
Then came the ban.
The Assault Weapons Ban outlawed any magazines that held more than 10-rounds. I was still in college when the ban went into effect. Needless to say, I didn’t have a lot of money. I couldn’t afford to snatch up a handful of magazines. The prices on them continued to rise until there came a point where I just couldn’t afford them anymore.. So I’m back to the 10-round magazine. 3 of them, actually. It’s just not the same anymore.
The national nightmare is about to end. 6 days from now, the market will be flooded with 50-round magazines. The price will plummet and I will once again be able to use my 10/22 to its full potential.
I can’t wait.
Hey, keep us updated. I need some 50 rounders for a 10/22 as well so let me know when you start seeing them for sale cheap.
I just read an article discussing the various positions of the Senate contenders and even Feingold supports letting it expire. He said the ban was arbitrary and useless or something like that. Give the man credit for that at least…
Don’t get cocky. It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sits down and shuts up.
I’ll get plenty cocky. I haven’t heard anything about it in major news media. It’ll die quietly.
Hey, thanks for reminding me of the obvious. I had forgotten that this was the legislation that banned decent sized magazines.
I have no intentions of going out and buying any new guns once the ban is over. But magazines are another story…
