Anti-Wi-Fi Paint

Seems like there may be some side-effects for this, but it’s a great idea if it works

Researchers say they have created a special kind of paint which can block out wireless signals.

It means security-conscious wireless users could block their neighbours from being able to access their home network - without having to set up encryption.

The paint contains an aluminium-iron oxide which resonates at the same frequency as wi-fi - or other radio waves - meaning the airborne data is absorbed and blocked.

By coating an entire room, signals can’t get in and, crucially, can’t get out.

  1. It’s all fun and games until Lex Luthor finds out we have it. Then all hell is going to break loose.

  2. Does it have the potential to interfer signals too.  If everyone painted their houses with this stuff would we be creating a gigantic dead space?

  3. Joe- the answer is no.

It will also block cell phone signals.  Frankly it is a stupid idea.  Once you paint a room, how do you go back?  Who knows what wireless technologies are in the future and you may have just significantly lowered you property values.

  4. Are people really that dumb as to think repainting is easier than setting up some wireless security?  For crying out loud it’s not difficult, add a freakin’ wireless password at least.

  5. I’d like it if my church and movie theater were painted with this stuff.

  6. Useless for most people.  This has to be an exterior paint, I can see people painting a room with it, and finding out their wireless now only worked in the bedroom.  If you are going to paint a room with this, just go hard wired.

  7. Cool, I wonder if it will stick well to my aluminum foil hat?

  8. If I painted my car with this paint would it give the trooper a false radar reading? You could paint the inside of taverns with this stuff so your wife could never call you.

  9. Isn’t that the same stuff that TRULY led to the blaze that was the Hindenburg?!?!?
