A Plug

I’ve had an excellent experience with a West Bend business that I thought I would pass along.

Barton Small Engine is a great company.  I bought my Cub Cadet there earlier this year.  Other stores had the tractor in town, but Barton Small Engine was the only one willing to give me a 3% discount for paying cash (thus saving them paying that 3% to the credit card company).  Plus, they threw in delivery for free.  When winter came, I bought the snow thrower attachment there.  They picked up the tractor, installed it, and returned it.  I called a couple of weeks ago for chains.  They set them aside for me and they were right there when I went in.

Last week, the augers on the snow thrower broke.  They wouldn’t turn.  They sent a mechanic to my home who repaired a belt that had slipped at no charge.  That was part of the problem,, but it still wouldn’t work.  Apparently there was a bad run of gear boxes.  They picked up the tractor and will do the repair and return it - all at no cost to me.  The service there has been good every time and they are a pleasure with which to do business.  I will no longer shop around for my small engine work.  I’m going to Barton Small Engine.

  2. So, they have great service but lousy products.  Makes me want to rush right in there to spend my hard earned dough on crap that doesn’t last but a few months before it falls apart. wink

  3. Nothing lousy about the products.  My Cub Cadet has been a champ all year.  The bad gear box is an anomaly, and they have been responsive in repairing it.  No complaints here.

  4. I used them once or twice for my Toro push mower that I got when I lived in Port, They quickly fixed it so my grass didn’t get to long.

I need to find a place like them here in the GR north area…

  6. Oh, you know about Barton Small Engine. That’s a great garage for me. I’ve been repairing lots of gadget and machine there. How come they give you free service?

  7. “The Cub Cadet carries a shorter three-year or 120-hour warranty, and it is made by MTD, a company that has a poor record for quality-control issues and durability. We found quite a few users who say it needs frequent repairs. Nearly all of the two dozen or so owner-written reviews at Popular Mechanics are negative.”

Trade it in for a John Deere.
