A Good Election Day

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the election.  Walker won… big.  Gableman won.  The West Bend council now has a 5 to 3 conservative majority.  McGee lost, even if he got enough votes to embarrass Milwaukee.  The Frankenstein veto is dead.  The Hartford School referenda failed.

Not a bad day for conservatives… not a bad day at all.

  1. So do you suppose that Michael McGee had to call collect to concede?

  2. Butler didn’t concede last night.
Wondering if he left his party to look for a loophole?

Correction - not a bad day for the citizens of Wisconsin.

And yet it will still have no vision for how to aggressively make improvements in the city.

  5. Yesterday was an outstanding day for Wisconsin…..

This State is still on a socialist track to run all the business out and in the meantime make everyone a State or local government employee with massive pension benefits that will bankrupt us.

But at least now with Walker back in, Milwaukee has a fighting chance…..

And with Gableman, we’ve got a chance to turn things around to improve the economic climate here so myself and my young kids will have a shot at some good job opportunities without having to go out of State in five or ten years.

I hope Butler doesn’t try to bring racial issues into this today, but one got that sense in his interview last night where he talked about Gableman ads ‘suppressing the vote’.....the bottom line is that the guy had a huge judical track record that he couldn’t shake off.

  6. a day for “conservatives”??  hardly.  a day that sounded the death knell of democracy.  true conservatives fight fascism & plutocracy, they do not rejoice in it.

  7. Does anyone know when the ten year term of the next WI supreme court justice is up?  And who would that justice be (Liberal or conservative)?

  8. a day that sounded the death knell of democracy.

    Hyperbole alert!

Which part of Bill of Rights has been suspended because we took away the Governor’s line-item veto power?

  9. Abrahamson is up next year.

  11. Thank you Owen.  Glad to hear that Abrahamson is up for re-election next year.  I see she voted with Butler for lifting malpractice caps.  So, since only one justice can be up for re-election each year, hopefully the 4-3 will hold for 2 years (if not 5-2 after next year).  I’m praying for the conservative justices to stay healthy and not get promoted to a higher court (leaving their seat open for Doyle to appoint- and throw Butler right back on).

  12. I hope we get someone good to run against Abrahamson - she is the worst justice to ever sit on that court. Talk about one person being responsible for so much damage to the business climate here - her name would be at the very top of the list. She takes the term ‘legislating from the bench’ to a whole new level.

I think yesterday was a good day for Wisconsin. I was a bit surprised at the school referendums that passed (Elmbrook, and east side of Milwaukee) but other than that - getting Gableman in, McGee out, and keeping Walker bodes well for some hope for Wisconsin.

  13. Just a personal thank you to Gretchen Schuldt for showing the way.  Her lies about how Tom Reynolds spent campaing money for his electric bills on his house reminded us to see who was paying for the bills to run Louis Butler’s campaign committee.  Glory be it was Freibert, Finerty and gang and Louis did not reimburse them for 9 years till he paid $1,000 in January of 2008.  Who was paying the bills all the rest of the time.
Well, the IRS, the Wisconsin Dept. of revenue and the other judicial groups will find out.
The questions are: whose computers are the hundreds of thousands of dollars recorded upon?  Whose software?  Who has paid for the postage, the thank you’s, the phone calls etc?
We will find out and some people are really sweating it.  No one knows what this new group will do.  Could hang somebody.
The IRS will not look askance.
It came out too late to have any effect on the campaign but it wil have a big effect on the future and some people might just go to jail.  Using your emeplyees for politcal purposes than expensing them from your income is big no no.  ask Monroe Swan.  Ask the state caucuses.
      Stay tuned.

  14. Ahhh Dohnal, king of the last minute sleaze attacks.  Who wants to bet that this complaint goes the way of all the others he has filed?  Loved the last minute attacks in Tosa and in New Berlin by the way.

  15. What happened yesterday was a great day for democracy.  For one, there won’t be legislating done from the executive branch with a veto pen.  Two, there will be alot less legislating done in the judicial branch as well.

A move back toward having the checks and balances the founders thought so necessary.

  16. I am a Wisconsin native.  For the past decade or so, I feel like I have been slowly watching my state die with the steady slide to socialism.

I, and my family, will be relocating to North Carolina in the coming weeks.  Add 2 more college educated, upper middle class income folks to the brain drain.

However, yesterday renewed my faith in the reasonableness of the voters.  The slide slowed down a bit yesterday and I will leave the state at peace knowing that I helped out yesterday.

  17. Maybe the Hartford voters did not understand the referendum.  Perhaps it should be re-explained to them so they are not so confooosed.

My ballot had almost all unopposed incumbents, except 2 races.  At least Gableman won, plus our local high school Miss pageant voting.

  19. I was told this morning that Loophole Louie was a black guy - did he play the race card in this election?  I don’t recall it being mentioned.
I was aware Gableman was from Ashland County, so I’m kinda assuming he is caucasian or Native.
