It’s getting hot in my home town.
Saturday’s high hit 107, and North Texans were sweltering through another day of record-breaking heat on Sunday.
“It is going to be a scorcher out there,” said WFAA-TV meteorologist Nancy Snell. “Our heat index values [will be] close to 110.”
Snell forecasted that the high temperature at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will reach 107 degrees on Sunday afternoon, which tops the record of 105.
I remember many a summer with temperatures well above 100 degrees. You get used to it.
Yep, I’ve been here for about a year, and while it’s hot, you do kinda get used to the temps. It’s the electricity bills that really make you sweat…
The bad deal for many here is that several area lakes and pools have been closed, while they treat for cryptosopridium.
I lived in Dallas from 1980 to 1992 when I moved to northern Illinois. I’ve said all along I’ll trade the winters here for Dallas summers anyday. I got real tired of turning my AC on in March and off in October.
And besides, I quickly became an ex-Cowboys fan after Jerry Jones trashed Tom Landry. Sorry Owen, but my affection is for the Chiefs (I grew up near KC).
We’ve had 41 triple-digit days since May 19 (not sure why they used that as a starting date) here in Austin, and it’s one of the driest years in recent memory. Whew.
Actually, only 104 here. I’d rather have my Texas summers that the four winters I spent in Ohio, anyday!!! Every thing is messy, you have to clean up something all the time. Having to get on coats, boots, gloves and scarves just to run to the store. Texas, love it!!
I wouldn’t spend another summer in Texas for a bajillion dollars. Come to think of it, winter isn’t all that great there, either.
I lived in southern Oklahoma for a time (no sports rivalries for me, so lay off Longhorns!), and it must have been in the middle of one of the worst heat waves, because I distinctly remember several 115 degree days. For all the pain and suffering of Wisconsin winters, I’m definitely more content with the weather here than there. It blew my mind (even if it made perfect sense) that most folks would wait to mow their lawn until 10 at night, simply because it was too hot during the day to do anything out of doors.
I sympathize with Texans right now. Temperatures like that just plain suck.
I “lived” (existed) in Little Rock, AR (not too far from Dallas). In all reality, one only had 1.5 months of nice weather: Jan-March was cold. April was continuous rain. May-September is 100 degree heat with 90% humidity (which I never got “used to”), October and 1//2 of November was beautiful. December is cold.
Now this was in the early 80’s and our electric bills were $300. Can’t even imagine what they are now.
