New/Old Bayonet

For some reason - probably because I beg and plead for it - people like to give me their old guns and edged weapons when they die or move or otherwise don’t want them.  I love it, so I’m not complaining.  Thanks! 

One of the fun parts of this is trying to figure out what the heck it is.  Guns are easy.  Except for some very old or very custom pieces, they are labeled.  Edged weapons are another animal altogether.  They usually have little more than a manufacturer’s stamp that is cryptic unless you know what it is.  Plus, since edged weapons are easier to manufacturer and survive time better than a more complex machine like a gun, there are thousands upon thousands of different items.  Often times, I can narrow it down to a year range and maybe a country, but after that, it’s a matter of visual matching to pictures. 

It took me a while, but I finally figured out what this is:

It came as part of a package of a dozen or more edged weapons of various varieties.  It’s a Swedish bayonet for an 1896 Swedish Mauser. 

Now all I have to do is get the rifle
