Man Arrested for Illegally Purchasing Gun for Cop Shooter

Something else is going on here.

A 21-year-old man has been charged in federal court with buying a gun police say was used by another man to shoot two Milwaukee police officers, according to court records.

Jacob D. Collins, of Milwaukee, bought the .40-caliber Taurus pistol at Badger Guns in West Milwaukee in early May and then sold it to Julius Burton, 18, according to a criminal complaint. Burton has been arrested in the officers’ shooting but has not been formally charged. The district attorney’s office is reviewing the case.

Collins admitted to investigators he lied when he signed a form at Badger saying he was the actual buyer of the gun, the complaint says. Collins said he bought the gun knowing he was going to sell it to Burton for $40, it says.

First off, what Collins did was clearly illegal and they should lock him up for as long as possible.

But $40?  I can’t imagine any .40 Taurus pistol - even a used one - going for that price.  In other words, Collins had to have eaten the majority of the actual cost of the gun.  It sounds to me like Collins was paying off a debt (drugs) and $40 was just the balance left over.
