And you thought taxes were high already in Milwaukee? Just wait.
The County Board parks committee on a 5-2 vote endorsed a November referendum question asking voters for approval of a half-cent sales tax increase to support parks.
The move comes on the heels of another half-cent sales tax increase referendum measure to raise money for transit, approved last week by the County Board’s Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committee.
Together, the plans envision an increase in sales taxes of some $130 million annually, a 200% increase over what the current 0.5% county sales tax brings in.
