Gray Wolf No Longer Endangered

Don’t expect a hunting season anytime soon

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed the gray wolf from protections of the Endangered Species Act in Wisconsin and other Great Lakes states today.

The rules will go into effect in 30 days and will return regulation of the animals to state wildlife agencies.

In Wisconsin, this means the Department of Natural Resources will once again manage the state’s teaming population, which last winter was estimated at 537 to 564.
