The state schools chief agreed Monday not to withhold up to $175 million in federal funding from Milwaukee Public Schools, a threat he made earlier this year because of the district’s repeated failure to meet academic progress targets.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers and Milwaukee Board of School Directors President Michael Bonds released a joint statement Monday saying that the district acknowledged Evers’ authority to withhold funding, but that Evers would refrain from doing so.
