It’s “sunk” costs you’ve been talking about regarding Jeff Suppan. Sunk, not fixed.
Fixed costs are costs that don’t change in the short run, like the cost of uniforms for the season.
Sunk costs are costs that cannot be recouped no matter what happens. For example, when you go to Old Country Buffet and pay your $9.99 for dinner (or whatever it is nowadays), it doesn’t matter whether you stuff yourself or just eat a salad, the $9.99 is spent no matter what. Whether Suppan plays or sits on the bench, the money they spent on him is spent. It is a sunk cost.
Needed to get that off my chest.
