Here’s a man who is willing to piss away his freedom because he is too uncivilized to control his own base desires - and assumes that nobody else can either. 

The real issue, of course, is that most of us simply can’t handle much freedom. While we’d like to think we’re free to do whatever we want, we certainly don’t want everyone else to be free.

I think we all can agree that it’s a good thing we’re not free enough to buy crack cocaine at Walgreens or to buy semiautomatic weapons on street corners or to sell toys covered in lead-based paint to children.

Over the past 10,000 years of human history, we’ve been struggling to emerge from the “freedom” of our worst instincts to evolve into a society with the shallowest veneer of civilization.

If it takes a few laws that prevent me from lighting up a cigar in a restaurant or a waiting period for me to buy a pistol to help rein in our worst instincts, I’m all for it.

So for goodness sake, sit up straight, buckle your seat belt and listen to your nanny for a change.

What a sniveling little turd.  He’s free to throw his freedoms on the altar of tyranny to have others protect him from himself, but as for me… I’ll put my faith in liberty.
