Burke Hired By State

Nice.

Former state Sen. Brian Burke (D-Milwaukee), convicted of one felony and one misdemeanor in connection with the largest public misconduct investigation in state history, has been hired as an assistant public defender by the state.

He started Monday and will be paid $48,458 a year.

Burke, 50, applied for the job last October, after the state Supreme Court reinstated his law license, said Randy Kraft, spokesman for the Public Defender’s Office.

“He has satisfied his debt to society,” Kraft said. “We were certainly aware of his convictions.”
