Avatar

I went to see Avatar this afternoon.  I’d give it a five out of ten.  The special effects were phenomenal and the various critters were interesting, but the plot was a very standard sci-fi fallback and the characters were rather shallow.  The whole “evil humans must kill pure indigenous people to get minerals/gold/water/resources and indigenous folks who are in communion with nature fight back on uneven battlefield yadda yadda yadda” has been done a thousand times.  I was waiting for some new twist on it that never came.  Avatar is worth a watch, but it’s far from anything unique - except, as I said, for the special effects. 

On the brighter side, I did see the trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans - one of my all time favorite movies.  Let’s hope the remake stays true to the claymation special effects of the original.
